ABOUT OUR PONIES
In 1975, Gale Park Frederick acquired three island foals at auction to establish a breeding program for these rare ponies. She then founded the National Chincoteague Pony Association as the first official registry for Chincoteague Ponies. For more than thirty years, the NCPA’s breeding program has provided three to four beautiful foals each year to the public. NCPA progeny has become so popular that many Chincoteague Pony enthusiasts wait several years for their foal to be bred and born.
Canrydd Stables continues that tradition, producing the tall, athletic ponies that have become prized the world over for their outstanding temperament and conformation. Our first three foals, all by the NCPA’s black stallion Black Gold, were kept back to see how they would develop. All have exceeded our expectations in conformation and color, and have matured into beautiful, talented, and gentle ponies, with unlimited potential as life-long companions in competition or pleasure or as a complement to any breeding program.
In 2005, we acquired our stallion, Julie’s Beach Boy. Beach Boy is a 2002 solid black Island-bred Chincoteague Pony, registered with the Chincoteague Pony Association. His height, extremely refined conformation, and exceptional intelligence and temperament make him a perfect match with our NCPA mares. Our first Beach Boy foals have proven this impressive combination.
Due to their small size, gentle temperament and easy keeping, Chincoteague Ponies have long been sought as children’s mount’s. Canrydd Stables believes that our tall, willing and capable ponies offer an exciting alternative to adult riders of all experience levels. In particular, adult beginner riders face special challenges, and will find that our ponies are excellent companions with whom to build confidence and gain experience. |
